I had to ask/do my own research about the ins/outs and objective of the Gummy Drop game. Games often have an element of math, geography, and problem-solving playing them makes Alora more confident to challenge herself in real-life situations. The most unexpected place she has found confidence, however, is in playing online games like Gummy Drop.Īlora gets ultimate joy and feelings of accomplishment discovering new game apps and learning how to play-especially if her dad already plays them! Defeating a game and increasing levels makes her feel that she can do/learn anything. She obviously gets frustrated and experiences self-doubt at times but she perseveres. For example, she is studying Spanish and learning to play a new sport. She loves to tackle things that are new and/or hard for her. Our oldest daughter, Alora (age 8), is the conquering type. You never know, we could have the next star gymnast right under our roof! Vivia feels like a superhero afterwards and although her father and I monitor her, we refuse to discourage her efforts. I'm sure most of us did this as kids, but doesn’t watching it as a parent make you nervous?! By flip, I mean lie on her back, scoot to the edge of the couch, put her hands on the floor, and carry her feet over her head. For instance, my youngest daughter, Vivia (age 3), has gained more self-assurance by learning to flip off of the couch. On the other hand, confidence is also gained in more unconventional ways. It's understandable how kids are able to become more self-assured after having such experiences. Occurrences such as meeting new people on the playground, participating during library story times, standing in front of classmates at school, and helping with home chores/activities offer opportunities for growth. Because this is extremely important to me and beneficial for them, I do my best to use everyday situations to help them develop this trait. One of my missions in life is to help others build self-confidence especially my two daughters.
